IL PASSO

The Step is the story of a challenge: Gabriele, 13 years old, without ever having spent time in the mountains, decides to go to mountain pasture for the summer. He joins a family of shepherds and goes with them to high grazing lands, where cows can find fresh air and fine grass. More than learning a job, he is struggling to show that he can handle on his own. Like everyone else, he wakes up at 5 in the morning to milk the cows, look after them and assist in making butter. He is the youngest of his team and aware of this. He is proud of being there alone, even though he often texts his mom in the evening – as Claudio, the leader of the group, points out in order to make fun of him.
In this rainy July, Claudio needs Gabriele’s help more than expected and something seems to change: the boy who used to play with his swiss knife alone in the corner grows up taking his responsibilities as a young man.
